First time I've stumbled on this site, I'm looking forward to listening to the podcasts. Re your post, I never go the new year resolution route, I'm all for goals and planning, in fact that's something I intend to get better at in 2010 and to that affect I set myself small achievable goals and work towards my bigger goals in internet marketing.

Thanks for the article.

Wow, what an interesting interview. It's definetley true about these "!!!" style sales pitches which inevitably end up asking for a nominal fee. You can't type out a used car salesman pitch on a website and expect a result: it's a totally different arena where a certain degree of human interaction is lacking and needs compensating.

Thankyou very much, this was very enlightening

Hi Alan,

Thanks for this book recommendation; I’ve added it to my Amazon wish-list.

Just this week I finally caught up with all of the podcasts. They are a fantastic resource of information and inspiration with something to take away from every epipod. I’ve gone from complete marketing ignorance through to getting all fired up about marketing our product, especially Google AdWords and copywriting.

Now its time to go back through all the epipods from a different perspective and refresh my stack of “Al’s acronyms”.

Alan,

The introduction had me smiling the whole time; I just didn’t know what was going to happen next or where it was leading. I found it touching as most of our pets have been adopted from rescue centers and I have admiration for people that rescue and care for animals, especially wild ones. Thank you for sharing that with your listeners.

Then you followed up with a great conversation with Eve, who is such a joy to listen to. She has so much positive energy and enthusiasm; I can see why you didn’t edit down the interview.

Thanks again,

Derek.

This podcast is the first time I have heard an explanation for the existence of long copy sales pages.

I have seen several times in forums the question raised, ‘Why do people use long copy?’ I’ve also searched for the answer. Most responses have given the advice to split test short and long copy versions, which while valid, has not explained the existence of long copy or when to use it.

Your explanation of long copy being related to convincer strategy made sense and provides a solid basis for deciding on its purpose and its creation. It helps to understand why some people are so turned off by long copy; they probably have a low convincer strategy.

It surprises me that I find long copy so off-putting. When making a purchase I have a high convincer strategy and often sort by others. With all those long copy benefits and testimonials I should be an easy sell, but that is not the case. I suspect the reason is the artificial production and collation with all of the content coming from a single source – the sales page which is totally controlled by the seller -- not to mention the often generic feel of long copy I encounter. I look forward to discovering if future podcasts shed light on my apparent contradiction.

A question that occurred to me is if there are correlations between people having a high convincer strategy and sorting by others?

Thanks again, this is another great podcast. After jumping around a small number of the later episodes based on each write-up, I am now starting back at the beginning. By the time I reached this podcast you had managed to set in motion a reworking of our site content and structure that once complete I believe will make a significant difference to our business.

Your delivery successfully balances being light-hearted while delivering quality, meaningful advice and concepts.

Many thanks,
Derek.
